PhD student (UB - ICM-CSIC)
Yanis is a PhD student at the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences of the University of Barcelona with Dra. Cristina Linares and Dr. Joaquim Garrabou as his supervisors. The thesis project he is working on, aims to reduce the uncertainty on the future viability of coralligenous assemblages while evaluating the role of marine protected areas in their conservation. This will be undertaken by integrating the responses to climate change of the main habitat-forming species and of the coralligenous functioning, while also considering the response of the biodiversity associated to coralligenous assemblages. These responses will be studied within the framework of marine protected areas, thus being able to assess them in different degrees of protection, which will allow for an evaluation of the interaction between local impacts and climate change. These results, combined with the exploration of new local conservation actions, intend to improve the management and conservation of coralligenous in the Mediterranean.
