Technician (ICM-CSIC)
Martí Vilanova Gallardo is a technician currently employed at the Institut de Ciències del Mar (CSIC), working closely with Dr. Joaquim Garrabou. In addition to his work at CSIC, he is an integral part of the coordination team at Observadores del Mar.
Martí earned his bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Girona. He further pursued his academic journey by completing a Master's in Marine Biology with a specialization in Biodiversity and Conservation at the University of La Laguna. During his academic tenure, Martí conducted significant research addressing critical issues related to climate change. His undergraduate thesis explored the impact of global warming on the larval development of Patella ordinaria, while his master's thesis delved into the effects of climate change on the growth of the invasive coral species Tubastraea coccinea.
Beyond his academic achievements, Martí has actively contributed to various research projects focused on understanding and mitigating the impact of climate change on marine ecosystems and organisms. Notably, he has been involved in monitoring marine biodiversity in protected natural areas, such as the Parc Natural del Cap de Creus and the Parc Natural del Montgrí, les Illes Medes i el Baix Ter.
Martí's primary research focus on the effects of climate change on benthic organisms, reflecting his dedication to the conservation and comprehension of the challenges facing our marine environment.
