Margarit, Núria

Technician (UB)

Núria Margarit Ricart is a technician at the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences of the University of Barcelona with Dr. Cristina Linares. She graduated in Biology and holds a master on Oceanography and Marine Management, both at the University of Barcelona. She is focused on the ecology and marine conservation of coastal benthic communities specifically on the effects of marine heat waves on Mediterranean benthic species, combining long-term environmental and ecological data sets. Since 2018, she has also been part of the marine monitoring team of the Montgrí, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter Natural Park and the Cap de Creus Natural Park.

She conducted her bachelor's thesis at the same department, studying the conservation status of red coral (Corallium rubrum) populations in the Cap de Creus Natural Park and the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park. Furthermore, she has been part of other projects, such as the restoration of red coral colonies taken illegally by fishermen in the Cap de Creus National Park.

In addition, she worked with Dr. Cristina Linares, Dr. Joaquim Garrabou and Dr. Daniel Gómez-Gras during her master's thesis, to analyze the linkages between functional and demographic traits of coralligenous assemblages in Calanques National Park (Marseille), and their vulnerability to ocean warming.
