PhD student (ICM-CSIC)
Sandra graduated from her bachelor degree at Universidad del Valle, Cali, Colombia with an emphasis in marine biology and population genetics of coral reef fishes. She did her Master degree at the University of Hong Kong and investigated the changes in the transcriptomic patterns of the blue streak cleaner wrasse (Labroides dimidiatus) when interacting with client species under normal and climate change conditions. Sandra is currently a PhD student at the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC) and the University of Barcelona, and her research focuses on understanding ecological and evolutionary processes from habitat-forming octocorals in the Mediterranean Sea impacted by ocean warming (Marine Heat Waves). She is also interested in identifying patterns of local adaptation in marine species driven by climate change as well as population genomics and connectivity in order to promote more effective conservation strategies.
