PhD student (UB)
Júlia Sardá Avila is a PhD student at the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences of the University of Barcelona under the supervision of Dr. Cristina Linares, Dr. Andrea Gori and Dr. Núria Viladrich. The thesis project aims to improve our knowledge on the conservation status and the resilience capacity of the Mediterranean gorgonian Eunicella singularis, one of the most abundant gorgonian species, and the only mixotrophic gorgonian, in the NW Mediterranean. The main objectives are to better understand the species and evaluate if any advantages exist in symbiotic species under global change in temperate seas using ecological, population, genetic and ecophysiological approaches.
