Eneko Aspillaga is a PhD student at the Department of Ecology of the University of Barcelona. For his thesis project he studies fish movement patterns within marine reserves, especially in the Medes Islands Marine Reserve. His main objective is to relate these patterns to the design efficiency of protected areas and the implications for the conservation of fish populations. The doctoral thesis is supervised by Dr. Bernat Hereu (UB) and Dr. Frederic Bartumeus (CEAB-CSIC), and funded by the FPU fellowship program of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Spanish Government. Previously, Eneko has worked as a research assistant in the project "Characterization of deep-water communities dominated by long-lived species (Pararamuricea clavata, laminaria and fucoid algae) in the Marine Reserve of Columbretes Islands”.
